SLK vs AW: Amazon Warriors fell short of 15 runs as per DLS to qualify for the finals of the CPL 2024, as Saint Lucia Kings reached the finals of the league. Amazon Warriors still have a chance to face Saint Lucia Kings again in the finals if they manage to beat Barbados Royals in Qualifier 2 of the league.
Saint Lucia Kings’ skipper Faf du Plessis chose to bat first after winning the toss and gave the start to his team. He and Johnson Charles scored runs from both ends and built the pressure on the bowlers. Johnson Charles led the charge and scored his fifty in just 28 balls, whereas the skipper contributed some boundaries and let Charles unleash. Both batters had a partnership of 124 runs for the first wicket, and Johnson Charles got out after scoring 79 runs. Faf continued his innings and scored his fifty. After his dismissal, the other batters contributed some runs to take the team’s score to 198/5 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing 199 runs, Amazon Warrior’s start was decent as both openers tried scoring quick runs, but in the fourth over, Kemo Paul was caught at short fine-leg. Soon, Rahmanullah Gurbaz also got out as AW was 2 down for 51 runs. It was Shimron Hetmyer who accelerated the pace of the innings and scored 37 runs in just 18 balls to take his team to 106 in 13 overs, but the rain didn’t let the play continue after that, and due to the initial slow pace of Amazon Warriors, while chasing the target, they fell short of 15 runs of the DLS par score and lost the match.

CPL 2024, Match 32: SLK vs AW| Captains’ Corner
We wanted to get some runs on the board, in the semifinal. Was an incredible start by Charles. That start set us up, it was a great innings by him. We have been consistent for the last few years, it’s a good partnership between him (Charles) and myself. He has improved against spin, he has worked on his game. To get 190-odd on a surface like that was a great effort. We are a team that has adapted well wherever we have played. I think we have lost the toss most of the times, but we have done something different. For me it’s a good sign as a team. We have found ways to win games from different situations. We need to adapt ourselves to whatever is in front of us.
Faf du Plessis(SLK Captain) said post-match
To be honest they put up a really good total, we let ourselves down in the powerplay. That was a crucial stage, but we came back well to restrict them (in the second half.) The powerplay took everything away from us. We need to come back strongly (against Barbados Royals), we have another chance. Got to give everything we have. We are trying different options, unfortunately Keemo got out. That ball might have gone to the boundary some other day. We might have another opener in the next game. I thought the ball was getting wet, so it wouldn’t be easy for Moeen.
