New Zealand’s annual cricket awards took place in Auckland on Thursday (March 23), and Daryl Mitchell and Melie Kerr were the standout winners. Mitchell, who had a prolific year in Tests with four centuries and a rise to No. 8 in the World Test batting rankings, received the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for being the outstanding men’s cricketer of the year as well as the Redpath Cup for men’s first-class batting. Meanwhile, Kerr was awarded the inaugural Debbie Hockley Medal for being the outstanding women’s cricketer. It was a night of celebration for these two talented athletes who have worked tirelessly to achieve excellence in cricket.

New Zealand cricket fans are beaming with pride after two of their players were recognized as some of the best in the world, with Sophie Devine and Tom Blundell being honored with prestigious awards. Devine, who won the Women’s T20I Player of the Year, showcased her impressive all-round abilities in the format, securing 423 runs and contributing with 17 wickets. Meanwhile, Blundell took home the Test Player of the Year award for his exceptional performance, scoring two centuries and six half-centuries during his 849 runs at a remarkable average of 60.64. These two players have proven themselves to be crucial assets to the team and fans cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.

Suzie Bates and Michael Bracewell proved to be the shining stars of New Zealand’s cricket this past year. Their impressive performances have rightfully earned them the title of ODI Women’s and Men’s Players of the Year. Bates played a crucial role in securing victories against the West Indies and Bangladesh, showcasing her incredible batting skills. Bracewell, on the other hand, had a breakthrough year with the bat, scoring an impressive 510 runs at 42.50. His skill and talent were on full display as he delivered two stunning centuries, including a magnificent 140 against India in Hyderabad.
