Sad News For CSK: Devon Conway Won’t Play IPL 2024 Until May

Devon Conway has injured his left-hand thumb, due to which he will not play in the IPL 2024.

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings have left with one less weapon in their arsenal now as New Zealand’s left-handed opening batter Devon Conway won’t be available for the IPL 2024 until May due to an injury he suffered during the T20I series against Australia. Devon Conway, who made a significant contribution to the team’s victory in the IPL 2023 final against the Gujarat Titans, has injured his left thumb during a T20I match against Australia that required surgery. The recovery is expected to take around 8 weeks, which means that Devon Conway will definitely miss more than half of the IPL 2024, and it is still not confirmed whether he will be fit to play immediately after his recovery.

Devon Conway is one of the key players for the Chennai Super Kings, as the left-handed batter since his debut in 2022 has amassed 924 runs in 23 appearances with a strike rate of 48.63. He was named player of the match for his performance in the final of the IPL 2023.

Now, in Devon Conway’s absence, the Chennai Super Kings need to fill the gap, and the player they will go for is Rachin Ravindra, another New Zealand’s player who impressed the cricket fraternity during the ICC World Cup 2023 with his shot-selection and stroke-playing abilities. The left-handed batter amassed 565 runs with three centuries and two fifties in the 2023 World Cup. Rachin Ravindra was bought by the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024 auction, which happened in December 2023.

The IPL 2024 schedule for 21 games is already out, and the full schedule will be updated once the date for the general elections of 2024 is announced. The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opener at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, on March 22.
