England's team players during a match

England vs Australia 3rd ODI: England’s skipper Harry Brook’s maiden ODI ton helped England comeback in the series and win the match by 46 runs(DLS method).

England, after winning the toss, decided to bowl first. Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh and right-hand batter Matthew Short started the innings for Australia. Both batters started cautiously but were dismissed early in the innings. Steve Smith and Cameron Green took the innings forward and started taking on bowlers. Bethell’s smart move outclassed Cameron Green as he got caught at short mid-on by Will Jacks. Steven Smith continued from one end and scored his fifty before getting out. Alex Carey partnered with Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Hardie to take his team’s total to 304 runs at the end of 50 overs.

Chasing the target of 305 runs, England’s start wasn’t good as Phil Salt got out on a duck, and then Ben Duckett was caught at point by Maxwell. England was 2 down under 20 runs; that’s where Will Jacks and Harry Brook started taking on Australian bowlers and built a strong partnership for the third wicket. Will Jacks contributed 84 runs in the chase before getting out, whereas skipper Harry Brook hit his maiden ODI century. He was later accompanied by Liam Livingstone, who scored a quick 33 runs before rain interrupted the match. But that wasn’t the issue for England as they had already crossed the DLS par score by 46 runs, which helped them win the match.

England vs Australia 3rd ODI: Captains’ Corner

“Thought we did extremely well to get to 300, particularly with conditions early on. England too good with the bat. I thought 250 after that start would be awesome and we were well and truly in the game. We knew the wicket had flatten out…but they got a really good partnership going. Fair play to them.”

Mitchell Marsh(Australia Captain) said post-match

We started off really nice with the ball, looked to take wickets and got a few early on. Obviously they started building partnerships through the middle and batted really nicely. With the bat, me and Jacksy just tried to stay out there as long as possible and create that partnership. Definitely thought the pitch got better towards the end of Australia’s innings and it was a simple message of go out and play your own game. Thankfully it came off today. Nice to get the first [hundred] on the board, hopefully there’s plenty more to come.”
