GT vs MI qualifier 2 IPL 2023: Shubman Gill’s great form continues:

GT vs MI qualifier 2 IPL 2023: After some delay due to rain, the Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bowl first. The defending champions opened their innings with their usual openers, Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha. After taking some time, the duo started increasing the pace of the runs. Shubman Gill, showing the form in which he was, hit some great boundaries and sixes on the other end Saha was supporting him, but in the last over of the powerplay, when Shubman tried to hit over the mid-on, he mistimed the ball, but to his good fortune, Tim David dropped the catch.

In the 7th over, Piyush Chawla, with his presence of mind, got the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha. Sai Sudharsan came to the crease, and from this time on, the Gill’s Run show started as he hit the balls out of the park whenever he wanted to. Bowlers had no answer for that, even the eliminator match winner for MI bowler Akash Madhwal wasn’t impactful this time; Gill hit him for three sixes in the 12th over, and in the 15th over of the match, he completed his third IPL ton this year. He hit his century in just 49 balls.

Akash Madhwal finally got Shubman Gill’s wicket, but he had already done the required damage. He scored 129 runs in just 60 balls. GT’s captain, Hardik Pandya, made some quick runs in the end and took his team’s total to 233 runs.

GT vs MI qualifier 2 IPL 2023: MI’s openers failed to impress, but Tilak and Surya’s innings gave some hope.

GT vs MI qualifier 2 IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians came to bat to chase the target of 234 runs, which had never happened before in any eliminator or qualifier match of the IPL. Due to an eye injury, Ishan Kishan didn’t come to open the innings; instead, Nehal Wadhera and Rohit Sharma opened the innings for MI, but the change didn’t prove fruitful as Mohammed Shami got rid of Nehal Wadhera in the first over and Cameron Green came to bat. MI’s captain Rohit Sharma also failed to score some valuable runs for his team and got out in the 3rd over of their innings.

Meanwhile, Cameron Green got hurt after being hit near the elbow region. At the crease, there were two great hitters for the MI. Surya Kumar Yadav and Tilak Varma started putting on a show there, especially the left-handed batter Tilak Varma, who hit Shami for 24 runs in an over. Hardik Pandya was beaten by the duo as well. Tilak Varma and SKY took the score of the MI to 72 runs in 6 overs, but in the last over of the powerplay, when Rashid Khan came to bowl, he did what he is best at and took the wicket of Tilak Varma, who made 43 runs in just 14 balls.

Now Cameron Green got back on the field after some therapy sessions, and they both started charging the scoreboard. The duo was making the chase interesting, and MI scored 124 runs in the 11th over. Impact substitute Josh Little got the wicket of Cameron Green in his first over. Sky continued to play in his fashion and hit another fifty in just 33 balls, but in the 15th over, he gave his wicket to Mohit Sharma while trying to play his favorite shot. MI were 155 for 5 wickets.

Batters afterwards surrendered to the bowlers of Gujarat Titans, and MI got all out in the 19th over of the innings for 171 runs.

GT vs MI qualifier 2 IPL 2023: Post-Match Statements

Shubman Gill post-match:

“For me, it is playing ball to ball, over to over. The over where I hit three sixes gave me the momentum to go big. That’s when I realised it could be my day. It was a good wicket to bat on as well. Not a conscious decision, you keep inventing as a batter but for me the belief is more important. I am coming off a good International season as well. Had a good season last time as well. When I start well, I feel confident I can score well. From the last WI tour, I think I have shifted a gear”

Hardik Pandya(Winning captain)

“I think a lot of hard work goes behind the guys doing well. They keep practising, that reflects. I think the clarity and confidence he is carrying is amazing. Today’s innings was one of the finest, he never looked rushed. It felt like someone was throwing balls and he was hitting. He will be a superstar in international and franchise cricket. I do have conversations with him, I try that people feed off my energy. Everyone takes responsibility for themselves. We have to play good cricket, put in our 100%. knockouts could go either way, but very excited for the final.”
