Harmanpreet Kaur suspended for two matches by the ICC after violation of the Code of Conduct.

India’s Women Cricket Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been suspended from playing her next two matches for breaching the ICC code of conduct during the 3rd and final ODI of the match when the on-field umpire upheld the appeal of the Bangladesh team for the LBW, but Harmanpreet Kaur was not satisfied by the decision of the umpire and hit the wickets with her bat, and then while walking towards the pavilion, it seemed that she was gesturing that the ball hit her bat or arm first before hitting her pad. She even gave a thumbs up to the crowd in a sarcastic way.

The ICC found her guilty of the level 2 offence for her behavior during the match and fined her 50% of her match fees plus three demerit points were added to her record. She was fined on the basis of Article 2.8 of the ICC code of conduct for players and player personnel “showing dissent to the umpire’s decision”. She was also fined an additional 25% of her match fees for being outrageous towards the umpire and for criticizing them during the post-match presentation when she openly questioned the umpiring during the match, which made her guilty of the ICC level 1 offence of “public criticism in relation to an incident occurring in an international match”.

Harmanpreet Kaur has been demerited 4 points in her records, which means that she would be facing suspension for her next two matches, whether T20Is, ODIs, or Tests. As India (W) would be playing in the Asian Games 2023 next, which would be a T20I format, the star batter would remain absent for the first two matches of the Indian team, which would be quarterfinals and semifinals. As per the rules, they would directly play quarterfinals and then semi-finals if they managed to win the first one, and if India reached the final, she could play for India again.
