ICC introduces 3 new rules, What are the rules now?
The International Cricket Council (ICC), the top governing body in cricket, has recently announced some major changes in the game, and one of the changes that ICC announced was a much-awaited one. The recommendations for these changes were made by the men’s cricket committee headed by Saurav Ganguly and the women’s cricket committee. Here are the three changes that will come into effect from this year’s June month, hopefully from the 1st of June.
The first and most awaited one is the removal of the soft signal, which is given by the on-field umpire to the TV umpire. It is a kind of recommendation given by the on-field umpire to the TV umpire if there is any kind of appeal for the catch taken by the player on the field happens, and on-field umpires were not clear of their decision, so before referring it to the TV umpire, on-field umpires recommend their opinion about the situation.
The second is mandating the rule for wearing helmets and safety gear for the players if the batter is facing the fast bowler or the wicketkeeper is standing close to the wicket for wicket keeping, and when a fielder is fielding in close-distance fielding positions such as at silly point or short leg, proper gears during batting or fielding help in avoiding any mishaps.
The third one is the no-ball run revision rule, in which there is a huge confusion going on that the run would be counted as the batter’s run scored, but the ICC clarified the rule again and issued an official statement that if the ball hits the wickets and the batter takes the runs, then the runs taken by the batter would be counted in the team’s run scored.
The changes made by the ICC in cricket matches are done to improve the game and to remove any such rules that consume time.
