“It’s okay if you don’t do well in 2-3 games” Rohit Sharma supports Surya Kumar Yadav despite his avg. ODI performance

Surya Kumar Yadav showed exactly why he is the most special player in the Indian team by showing his batting prowess in the 3rd T20I of the five-match series against the West Indies. India lost both of its openers early in the innings while chasing the target of 160 runs, and that time when India was looking weak in front of the Caribbeans, who were almost heading towards clinching a T20I series against India after nearly 7 years, it was Surya Kumar Yadav who stood tall in front of the West Indian bowling attack and showed his skills of scoring quick runs doesn’t matter what the situation is.

Though Surya Kumar Yadav is great in T20I matches, as the batter has scored 1780 runs in 51 T20I matches with a whopping strike rate of 174.33, his stats hit bottom in ODI matches, as the right-handed batter scored just 511 runs in 26 ODIs he played with a good strike rate of 101.38. Surya’s performance in T20Is is no doubt absolutely phenomenal, but as the World Cup is nearing, he needs to sort things out in ODIs as well. Despite his poor performance in ODIs, he got the backing of India’s captain Rohit Sharma, who recognized his talent and praised his caliber during a promotional event.

“He is the kind of player, you also have to give him that freedom to go and bat the way he does. You cannot tell him to face 100 balls and make 50 runs. It is important to give a batter like him the cushion of extra games so that he finds that groove, gets that confidence. The way he started IPL this year, in the first 4-5 games he did not have too many runs but look what he did after that.”

For a player like him, it is our job to create such a situation and scenario — it’s okay if you don’t do well in 2-3 games, but when you come off, we know you will win games straightaway. That is what he did in the third T20I, the batters at the top got out, and for Surya to go and bat like that…
