Shubman Gill after scoring his century

India vs England Day 1 of the first test ended with Shubman Gill-led India dominating the home side at Headingley. Ben Stokes preferred bowling first after winning the toss, and a typical left-hand right-hand duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul started the innings for India. Both batters assessed the condition in the first few overs and played safe shots, but once they got a hold of the conditions and the pitch, both batters started scoring runs. England bowlers were struggling to get the first breakthrough of the match. In the 25th over, a full delivery bowled by Brydon Carse did the trick as KL Rahul got caught at slip on the score of 42 runs.

In the next over, the debutant Sai Sudharsan, while trying to guide a delivery going down the leg, got caught behind as he got dismissed on a duck in his debut match. As India was 2 down for 92 runs, then came India’s new test skipper, Shubman Gill and built the partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-handed batter scored his fifty and kept going to score his century. England’s skipper Ben Stokes picked up the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal, which brought Rishabh Pant to the crease and got off the mark by hitting a powerful boundary to Ben Stokes.
