IND vs ENG, 2nd Test, Day 1: Another Shubman Gill Show On Day 1, India Scored 310/5 On Opening Day

Shubman Gill after scoring his century

The 2nd Test between India and England started at Edgbaston, Birmingham, with the home side winning the toss and inviting India to bat first. The last test match opening pair of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings for India, but this time KL Rahul got out early as Chris Woakes’ delivery hit the bat of the batter and then ricocheted to the stumps as India lost the first wicket on the score of 15. Karun Nair and Yashasvi Jaiswal built the partnership and took the innings forward from there. The left-handed batter wasn’t slowing down and rushed to his fifty in just 59 deliveries.

Brydon Carse dismissed Karun Nair with a surprising bounced delivery, which hit the handle of the bat and went straight to the slip. India’s skipper, Shubman Gill, came to the pitch and stabilized the innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal, while trying to cut the ball hard, got dismissed on 87 runs. It didn’t take England’s bowlers much time to get Rishabh Pant’s wicket, as Shoaib Bashir baited Pant with a flighted delivery, and the wicket-keeper batter fell for it. Zak Crawley was stationed at long-on and completed a brilliant catch.

New inductee in the playing XI, Nitish Kumar Reddy, misjudged a delivery by Chris Woakes, and it found its way to the stumps as India were five down. From there, Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja built up the partnership for the 6th wicket and crossed the mark of 300 runs. The Indian skipper also scored his second century in the test series, whereas Ravindra Jadeja scored 41 runs to end Day 1 with 310 runs on the scoreboard. The two had 99 99-run partnership and will start India’s innings on Day 2. Chris Woakes picked up two wickets, Ben Stokes and Brydon Carse each scalped one wicket.
