India vs Australia: India crushed Australia in the semi-final 1 of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to reach the finals of the tournament.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. Travis Head and Cooper Connolly opened for Australia, and from the first ball, it was evident that it would be an exciting clash between bat and ball. Mohammad Shami produced a catch in the first legal delivery of the match. In the third over, he dismissed Cooper Connolly on a duck to get the first wicket for India.
Travis Head started playing his natural game and scored quick runs. He looked extremely focused, but in the 9th over, Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Travis Head to take India in front of the game. Skipper Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne built the partnership for the 3rd wicket and took the score to 110 runs. Ravindra Jadeja picked up the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne and then Josh Inglis. Alex Carey supported the skipper for a brief as Steve Smith, while charging down, missed the full toss to get out on 73 runs. Carey scored his fifty but, while trying to get a double, got run out. Australia was bowled out for 264 runs.
Chasing the target of 265 runs, India started with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. The skipper started aggressively, and sloppy fielding from the Australian side helped the skipper get two chances. Shubman Gill started getting in the rhythm, but Ben Dwarshuis bowled Gill to get Australia’s first breakthrough. Cooper Connolly rectified his mistake by picking up Rohit Sharma’s wicket.
Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer stabilized the innings and started taking the game forward. On the score of 134 runs, Shreyas Iyer got out, but Virat Kohli held his end and partnered with Axar Patel and then KL Rahul to close the chase gap. Unfortunately, he could not get to his century as Adam Zampa picked up his wicket. KL Rahul hit a six in the end to finish the chase as India won the match by 4 wickets to reach the final of the tournament.

India vs Australia, Semi-Final 1, ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Captains’ Corner
The bowlers did a really good job. The spinners squeezed them and took the game deeper. [Pitch] It was a tricky wicket to start on and we did a good job. It played similar throughout the game. A bit of hold and skid for spinners. It was a little two-paced. It wasn’t the easiest batting condition. We could have put a few more runs on the board. If we had 280-plus, it could have been different. We were one wicket down too many down at each stage of the game. [On CT’25] Just the way we have come together. The bowling was quite inexperienced. Some of the batters stood up. The England game, they came up strong. They will continue to get bigger and better.
Steven Smith(Australia’ Captain) said post-match
Till the last ball is bowled, nothing is certain. Halfway through the game, we felt it was a reasonable score, and we have to bat really really well. I thought we were very clinical with the bat. We were very calm and composed. The wicket looked better, and that has been the nature of the surfaces. The one which played today was slightly better. We just want to play good cricket and not read too much into what the pitch is doing. [Six bowling options] That is something I really wanted, to have six bowling options and then batting till No. 8 as well. This is something we discussed while making the squad. Credit to everyone involved.
