India vs Bangladesh: India won its first game of Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh after Shubman Gill’s brilliant ton helped chasing India the target.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto decided to bat first. Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar opened the innings for their team. From the Indian side, Mohammed Shami started the bowling attack and picked up the wicket of Soumya Sarkar during the first over of the game. Harshit Rana dismissed skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto in the next over to get his first of the match. Axar Patel picked 2 wickets in the 9th over as Bangladesh were 5 down for 57 runs. Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali started building the partnership for the 6th wicket, and a few missed chances helped the Bangladesh batters to keep going. Both batters scored their fifties and partnered for 153 runs to take the team’s score to 189. Hridoy scored his hundred before getting out.
Bangladesh scored 228 before India got bowled out in 49.4 overs.
India’s start to the chase was good as skipper Rohit Sharma and right-handed batter Shubman Gill started putting pressure on Bangladesh’s bowlers. Rohit Sharma was looking in good touch, but in the 10th over, while charging down the crease, he mistimed the ball to get caught by Rishad on the score of 41 runs. Virat Kohli batted for a while but got out for 22 runs. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul were dismissed after that as the game started shifting towards Bangladesh, but Shubman Gill and KL Rahul didn’t let that happen and partnered for the 5th wicket, where the former scored an unbeaten 101 runs, and the latter contributed 41 runs to take India to victory by 6 wickets.

India vs Bangladesh, Match 2nd, ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Captains’ Corner
“Before you come and play any game, you have to be confident. In the chase, as it goes on, there are different emotions that come through. But you have to be ready. We have been in that situation before. There’s a lot of experience in the dressing room to stay composed. KL and Gill at the end were very composed. One game, very hard to make anything out of the track. Not much grass on it, we knew it would be on the slower side, and that is how it played.
Rohit Sharma(India’s Captain) said post-match
I think the first powerplay, the way we batted, the game cost us at that point. Very hard for the lower order to recover. The way Hridoy and Jaker batted was brilliant. We made a couple of mistakes on the field, a couple of dropped catches, a run out. If we had taken those chances, the result could have been different. On this kind of wicket, with the spinners bowling, the ball spinning, Hridoy and Jaker batted brilliantly. I don’t think we were a spin bowler short. Mahmudullah got injured. We didn’t bowl badly, our quicks. If we had taken an early wicket, the result could have been different.
