Bangladesh stand-in skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, after winning the toss, chose to bat first. The decision to bat first on the pitch of Pune was proving right for Bangladesh, as their openers provided a great start for the team. Tanzid Hasan scored his fifty, and on the other end, Litton Das was scoring runs, but the partnership was brought to an end by Kuldeep Yadav by dismissing Tanzid Hasan at the score of 51. Litton Das went on to score his fifty in the match, but the batters afterwards failed to impress, and Bangladesh could reach 256 runs at the end of the 50 overs.

India, while chasing the target of 257 runs, started great with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill doing an 88-run partnership, which strengthened the top batting order of the team. When Rohit Sharma got out, Virat Kohli entered the crease with the intention to play till the end, and he did exactly that, plus he scored his 48th ODI century to take India home. Virat Kohli scored 103 runs in 97 balls to take India to a comfortable 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh.
