India vs South Africa World Cup 2023 Highlights

India’s skipper Rohit Sharma, after winning the toss, decided to bat first at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and kickstart the Indian scoreboard in his style by hitting a boundary on the off side. Then a run fest from the Indian side started as Rohit Sharma was depositing the ball into the stands whenever he wanted to. Kolkata was expecting something big from the Indian skipper, but soon Rohit Sharma, while trying to hit the ball hard over the midfielder, got caught by Temba Bavuma, and India lost the first wicket.

But the Kolkata fans were eager to welcome the birthday boy Virat Kohli, whom they wanted to play a special knock on his birthday, while Shubman Gill was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj. Virat Kohli needed support from the other end, and that was provided by in-form Shreyas Iyer. Both batters built the partnership required by India and kept running the scoreboard. Both batters scored their fifties, and though Shreyas Iyer couldn’t hit a century, he did the required damage. Virat Kohli went on to hit his 49th ODI century to match the record of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar as India finished with a huge total of 326/5 in 50 overs.

Chasing the target of 327 runs, South Africa’s in-form Quinton de Kock and skipper Temba Bavuma came to the field, but their innings didn’t last long as Mohammed Siraj took the wicket of the left-handed batter Quinton de Kock in his first over, and after that, there was hardly any resistance shown by South Africa’s team, and they surrendered in front of the Indian bowling attack. No South African batter scored more than 15 runs in the match and was bowled out by the Indian team with just 83 runs, winning the match by 243 runs.
