India vs Sri Lanka 3rd T20I: Indian spinners pulled another victory in a tight clash against host Sri Lanka in the final T20I match of the series.

Sri Lanka’s skipper, after winning the toss, chose to bowl first, and Sri Lanka’s spinner Maheesh Theekshana was quick to strike as in the second over of the match, he picked up the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal, and soon Sanju Samson was sent back to the pavilion on a duck. Rinku Singh was caught at mid-off, and skipper Suryakumar Yadav was trapped by Sri Lnaka’s bowling attack during the final over of the Powerplay. India lost four wickets inside Powerplay with a score of just 30. Shubman Gill scored runs from his end, and Riyan Parag also contributed some runs, but Hasaranga dismissed both batters. With Washington Sundar’s 25 runs, India posted a total of 137 runs on the board at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing the target of 138 runs, Sri Lanka got a good start with openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis scoring runs from both ends. They had a partnership of 50+ runs as Sri Lanka was closing the chase gap. In the 9th over, Nissanka got out after scoring 26 runs, then Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis had a good partnership as Sri Lanka was eyeing a comfortable victory with wickets in their hands, but it was Ravi Bishnoi’s wicket of Kusal Mendis and Washington Sundar’s two wickets that brought back India into the game. Rinku Singh came as an X-factor and picked up the wickets of Kusal Perera and Kamindu Mendis. Surprisingly, Suryakumar Yadav bowled the final over, not letting Sri Lanka cross the score of 137. The match went to super over, where Washington Sudnar picked 2 wickets for 2 runs as Suryakumar Yadav hit a boundary in the first ball to win the game for India.

India vs Sri Lanka 3rd T20I: Captains’ Corner

I think more than the last over, when we were 30 for 4 and 48 for 5, the way we showed character [with the bat]. 140 was a par score on this track. I told them I’ve seen such kinds of games and I told the boys if you put your heart into it, you can pull it off. The amount of skill they have and self-confidence they have – it makes my job easy. The care for each other they show is unbelievable. They made my job easy and when I go into bat, I have little pressure and I just express myself. I don’t want to be the captain. I want to be the leader

Suryakumar Yadav(India Captain) said post-match

Definitely, really disappointed, especially the middle order and lower-middle order. Very bad shot selection. The thinking was spinners were bowling and that’s why Hasaranga came up the order and we gave him the license to hit one or two boundaries. I think especially we played some wrong shots and when the ball gets old, the shot selection has to be spot on. We can’t give excuses and we have to do more than this. I want to see good batting performance in ODIs and I think the boys will do better.
