The upcoming IPL 2024 Auction is shaping into an exciting event, with 1,166 players registering for the auction. The auction is scheduled to take place in Dubai on December 19, and 77 slots will be filled, with a maximum of 30 overseas players.
Some notable names on the list include Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Daryl Mitchell, and Rachin Ravindra, all of whom have performed well in recent World Cups. However, it’s worth noting that Jofra Archer, recently released by the Mumbai Indians, has not enrolled for the auction.
Among the Indian players, there are 830, with 18 capped players. Harshal Patel, Kedar Jadhav, Shardul Thakur, and Umesh Yadav, recently released by their franchises, have set their base price at a maximum of Rs 2 crore. At the same time, the remaining capped players will be available at the reserve price of Rs 50 lakh.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has not provided a reason for Archer’s absence, leading to speculation that he may not participate due to injury. However, several other English players, including Adil Rashid, Harry Brook, and Dawid Malan, have registered for the auction.
The auction also features Australian players like Hazlewood, Head, Starc, Cummins, and Steve Smith, all with a maximum base price of Rs 2 crore. Additionally, players from Bangladesh, South Africa, West Indies, Ireland, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, Scotland, UAE, and the USA are on the list.
The schedule for IPL 2024 is yet to be finalized by the BCCI, pending the announcement of election dates by the Election Commission of India. The tentative plan is to hold the matches in India from the third week of March to the third week of May. Franchises have been instructed to respond with additional player requests, and the BCCI has reminded them that only 77 slots are available, with a maximum of 30 for overseas players.
