Mahika Gaur, a left-arm pacer at the young age of 17, made her international debut twice in her cricket career. Mahika Gaur earlier represented UAE in international matches, and as of now she has donned the England women’s jersey and played her first international match from the side on Friday, claiming a wicket in her first international match from her new side. England’s women’s team were playing against Sri Lanka in a T20I, and when Mahika Gaur was bowling her second over, she got the wicket of Sri Lanka’s women skipper Chamari Athapaththu with her late swinging delivery. Though the rain interrupted the play, England were declared victorious by 12 runs. (DLS method)

England, while batting first, put a total of 186 runs on the board in 17 overs, courtesy of Alice Capsey. 51 runs in 27 balls; some overs were reduced due to the weather conditions, and when Sri Lanka came to bat, the huge target of 187 runs was reduced to just 68 runs in 6 overs due to the continuous rain interruption. Sri Lanka managed to score 55 runs but lost the match by 12 runs. Mahika Gaur, before representing England, played international matches for the UAE. She made her first international debut when she was just 12 years old.

She played 19 T20I matches for UAE, picking wickets in her stint with UAE, and now that she has started representing England and taken her first wicket from the side, the wicket count goes to 10. Post-match, England’s women’s captain, Heather Knight, praised the debutant for her bowling and said:

Mahika was brilliant on her debut,” said Knight. “She had to move to death bowling after the rain and she executed her plan perfectly. At that height she gets real late swing which is quite a weapon.”
