MI New York vs Seattle Orcas: The opener of the Major League Cricket 2024 brought a victory to the defending champions, MI New York, who defeated Seattle Orcas by 6 wickets in a one-sided match.
MI New York skipper, after winning the toss, decided to bowl first, and the MI New York’s bowlers were quick to take wickets. Trent Boult took the wickets of Quinton de Kock and Nauman Anwar in the powerplay, and then the spinner Rashid Khan, who came in the last over of the powerplay, trapped Aaron Jones, and Seattle Orcas were three down. Skipper Heinrich Klaasen was the next. From there, only Shubham Ranjane scored runs as Seattle Orcas kept losing wickets. MI New York bowled out Seattle Orcas for 108 in 19.1 overs.
Chasing the target of 109 runs, MI New York didn’t get a good start as Monank Patel and Ruben Clinton got out on a cheap, but the wicket-keeper batter Nicholas Pooran put the pressure back on Seattle Orcas. He kept scoring runs from one end. While he was batting from the one end, it seemed that he would finish the match on his own. The left-handed batter scored fifty as the defending champions chased the total in 14.2 overs.

MLC 2024, MI New York vs Seattle Orcas: Captains’ Corner
It was a nice toss to win, bowling in this heat. The bowlers came up well and managed to stay with their plans. We’ve made a few additions to the team, everyone understands their responsibility as well. To be able to call up one of the senior bowlers around in the circuit (on Rashid Khan), credit to the management for picking him up. We all know how dangerous he can be (on Nic Pooran), on his day he can win a match by himself and he’s someone capable of finding the boundaries. Nice to have started with a win and looking forward to the next match which is coming up shortly.
Keiron Pollard(MI New York Captain) said post-match
It’s always good, I enjoyed the challenge (on captaincy), the boys did put up a good fight. The wicket was slow, we lost the game by not getting a big score, can’t win games with 108 on the board. I thought the bowlers executed the plans well, but we fell short with the bat, they bowled really well. Everyone has mixed up nicely, looking forward to a good game in the next match.
