TSK vs MI New York: Texas Super Kings defeated MI New York by 9 wickets in the eliminator game to reach challenger of the MLC 2024 where they will face the loser of Washington Freedom vs San Francisco Unicorns
After winning the toss, TSK skipper Faf du Plessis chose to bowl first, and the decision paid off when Zia-ul-Haq got Dewald Brevis’s wicket on a duck. Later, Nicholas Pooran failed to put on a performance and got out after scoring 8 runs. Monank Patel and Shayan Jahangir had a brief partnership, but the latter succumbed to Dwayne Bravo’s bowling tricks. Monank Patel kept hitting from one end, and he got the support of Rashid Khan, who was promoted up in the order. Patel got dismissed on 48, and it was Rashid Khan whose fifty helped MINY post a fighting total of 163 runs on the board at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 164 runs, TSK openers Devon Conway and skipper Faf du Plessis started cautiously, and once they got their eyes on the ball, they launched an attack on the MI New York bowlers. Both batters gave the start needed to chase the target. Faf got out after scoring 72 runs, but Aaron Hardie continued from where Faf left. He got the support of Devon Conway, who scored his fifty, and Hardie’s explosive 40 runs in just 22 balls helped TSK reach the target in just 18.3 overs.

Really good intent. Ifyou get a good powerplay then you can get ahead in the game. We were 50 for no loss and that was important. It was the balance of someone playing with merit, I am the aggressor but batting partnerships work when you complement each other. He (Conway) would be frustrated withthat knock, it was one of those scratchy innings but an in-batter is always good to have in such chases. We were there and thereabouts with the run-rate all the time. We didn’t know what to do at the toss, we knew they area good chasing team and that was the reason to bowl. 160 was below par, 180-185 would have been a good total on that wicket. Yes, Bravo got injured and we needed someone to bowl those last few overs.

We wanted to get a few more runs in the last two overs. 170 would have been a good total psychologically. But the conditions did get better in the second innings. You can look at different aspects as to why we lost, yes fielding was one of the reasons. But credit to Texas, they were better than us and deserved to go ahead. We fought all the way and are not satisfied with this finish. We have to continue working hard and there are some guys who need to get up to standard with the level of cricket. We got through to the playoffs but we didn’t play good cricket. Hopefully we come back stronger next season.
