SFU vs SEO: San Francisco United pulled out an amazing victory against Seattle Orcas in the 13th match of the MLC 2024.
Seattle Orcas skipper chose to bowl first after winning the toss, and SFU’s openers Finn Allen and Jake Fraser-McGurk came to bat. Both batters started slow, but Jake Fraser-McGurk looked a little anxious as he wasn’t hitting the ball cleanly, and in the third over, Imad Wasim dismissed him on the score of 11. Finn Allen and Matthew Short had a good partnership as both batters were scoring runs and took the score to 95. Finn Allen got out after scoring 34 runs, but Matthew Short continued and scored his fifty. After the dismissal of Short, the run rate of SFU decreased drastically, though Sanjay Krishnamurthi scored 30 runs for his team before getting out. The SFU could only reach 165 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Seattle Orcas’ start to the chase was decent as openers Ryan Rickelton and Shehan Jayasuriya were doing good on the crease and smashed SFU’s bowlers all over the park. Both had a partnership of 76 runs, but in the 9th over, Liam Plunkett bowled Ryan Rickelton to announce SFU’s comeback. After the dismissal of Ryan, SEO lost Quinton de Kock and Shehan Jayasuriya in quick succession. The game shifted towards SFU as bowlers built pressure on the SEO’s batters. Skipper Heinrich Klassen was caught at long-on, and after that, SFU won the match by 23 runs.

Pretty good result. The boys did a great job in the back end of the batting innings and then came out strong with the ball. (On Krishnamurthi) He’s a young kid who’s got so much talent. Huge pluses for him today. It was a pretty big innings in the context of the game. 20 odd in a game like this is huge. (On Cummins )He is a world class player, just having him in the group speaking cricket calms the group. Great for the balance of the team as well. We want to try and win every game, we go back to Dallas and we want to reassess quickly and hopefully we can get a bit of momentum out of this one.

We didn’t bat well once again. The bowlers have been fantastic so far, the batters are letting the bowlers down. (On Jayasuriya) That’s the reason he’s back in the team. He can be explosive up front. I’m so pleased it came off for him today and hopefully it can continue for the rest of the tournament. The pitch got a lot more difficult than expected. They bowled well, specially Plunkett but then also there was a bit of tactical fault from our side. We could have controlled things better. (On next game) Yeah, it would seem like a must win. The group is staggered nicely, so a win here can bump you up a couple of places. We want to go to Dallas with a win, and win there and hopefully get into the playoffs.
