Meanwhile, Boult also picked up the wicket of Sanjay Krishnamurthi; Josh Inglis also got out on the score of 1 as SFU lost 4 wickets on the score of 19. Sherfane Rutherford hit some runs but was dismissed on 14. Hassan Khan and skipper Corey Anderson’s partnership rescued the team. Chasing 149 runs, MI New York lost opener Ruben Clinton early in the chase. But Dewald Brevis and Nicholas Pooran batted cautiously to stabilize the innings for MI New York. But in the 10th over, Brevis got out on 56, and after that, SFU started pushing MI New York on the back foot. By taking Kieron Pollard’s and Nicholas Pooran’s wickets, SFU were back in the game. SFU’s bowlers bowled according to plan, and in the ultimate over, Haris Rauf defended 20 runs to win the match for his team.

Pretty happy. Was in the bush a little with the runs. We were in trouble early. Good thing is we bat deep. Hassan Khan had an unbelievable day. We fought as much as we could (to get to that total). You still have to pick up the aggressive options when you can and get to a total you think can be defendable. If you block it and get to a smallish total, there’s not much sense in it. We were definitely under-par and I just told our guys to fight. Shows the character of the side when you can fight it out like that, and holds well in the rest of the competition.

I believe in the middle period, in a 15-ball period, we did not get run-a-ball and that brought them back. (On what total they would have liked to restrict SF to) 120 – something around there. We wanted to put the foot on the throat but it did not happen. Today was sort of how this season has gone for us: giving ourselves a chance but not getting it done. In the entire tournament, it (batting) has not worked well for us. We have not been able to fight well and put up big totals. Rash (Rashid) finished off a couple of games but overall, from a batting perspective, we have not done great, and I personally, like today, I had a job to do, but I could not do it. There is another (game) to go, so have to finish well. Pride, reputation and passion (is something we play for) and let’s see how it goes.
