MINY skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and decided to bowl first. Matthew Short and Tim Seifert opened for Unicorns, and the skipper didn’t waste time to get into his rhythm. He started smashing the bowlers all over the park. SFU was on the score of 86 runs when they lost their first wicket as Tim Seifert got caught at covers. Jake Fraser McGurk came to the crease and didn’t let the run rate slow down. Matthew Short unfortunately got out after scoring 91 runs for his team. Jake Fraser McGurk got out after scoring his first fifty of this season. The right-handed batters scored 64 runs off 26 balls. In the death overs, it was Hassan Khan’s 31 runs off just nine balls that helped SFU put 246 runs on the board.

Chasing the target of 247 runs, MI New York got the start they wanted as the openers Quinton de Kock and Monank Patel played fearlessly and smashed the SFU bowlers from the first over of the chase. Monank Patel was playing aggressively and scored his fifty in just 25 deliveries. In the 10th over, after having a solid partnership of 119 runs for the first wicket, Monank Patel got out. Quinton de Kock scored his fifty, but the SFU bowlers started putting pressure on MINY, and they lost back-to-back wickets. Though Keiron Pollard tried his best, he didn’t get support from the other end, and MINY fell short of 47 runs.

“Tough day for us. Kudos to them. Well batted. We didn’t execute our plans as the bowling group. Polly came and then showed us exactly what we had to. Obviously, if we chased that, that would have been a really good chase, but instead, I felt like the openers really, they really gave us a chance in this game. That’s a brilliant partnership with Queenie and Monank. They continue their form in this tournament, but it got away from us in the middle there, especially myself there, at 14-15, or 17, that’s unacceptable. But kudos to them. I think they bowled pretty well, and in the last 10 hours, they used the conditions really nicely.

They’re always nice to get, but more happy with the win. Five and I can’t be more happier. Look, to be honest, it’s not too difficult out there. We’ve got a lot of work behind the boys. We’ve got the staff who do all the work behind the scenes. And then a big shout out to Corey Anderson, who obviously led the boys in the first few games and put us in good stead. Coming into today, it’s a bit of a strange one. We lost the toss. And if we had won, I would have wanted to bat second. It looked a bit dry. Looked a bit different from the wicket we played in the last game. To be honest, it played better than we thought, which was, again, massive credit to the ground staff out there. I know they’re listening out there. So, shoutout to you mate. It also played a lot better than we thought.
