Pakistan announced its squad for the ICC CWC 2023; Naseem Shah is not included.

Naseem Shah during Asia Cup 2023

As the deadline given by the ICC to the participating nations to submit their squads for the ICC men’s World Cup 2023 is getting closer, nations are submitting their best 15 players names to the ICC, and if any changes need to be made to the squad announced, it has to be done before September 28th. Pakistan has also announced its squad for the marquee tournament, and one of their key bowlers is going to miss the tournament. Naseem Shah is not included in the squad owing to his shoulder injury in the Asia Cup, though pacer Hasan Ali is called back after a year as the replacement for the bowler.

Hasan Ali was also part of Pakistan’s team in the 2019 World Cup, but he wasn’t that impressive with the ball, as in the four matches he played for the side, he ended up picking only two wickets. The chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team gave this reason behind Hasan Ali’s selection for the World Cup squad.

“There are a lot of injury concerns for our fast bowlers. We wanted someone who has experience of playing in big tournaments and can pick wickets in the middle so we have gone with Hasan Ali,”

Inzamam-ul-haq said

Giving updates on Naseem Shah’s injury, he said that the scan results are not so good and that the right-arm bowler would be out of the team even after the World Cup. Inzamam emphasized that Pakistan needs to take wickets in the middle overs to win on Indian pitches, and that’s why experienced bowlers have been picked up. Babar Azam would lead the Pakistan’s team in the ODI World Cup in 2023.

Pakistan squad for the upcoming World Cup: Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Mohammad Rizwan, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Salman Ali Agha, Mohammad Nawaz, Usama Mir, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Wasim
