The cricket fans in Bangladesh are eagerly waiting for the arrival of New Zealand, who will play three one-day internationals (ODIs) against the hosts in September. The series will be a crucial preparation for both teams ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be held in India.
New Zealand is currently ranked third in the ICC ODI rankings, while Bangladesh is seventh. The Kiwis have a formidable record in the World Cup, having reached the final twice in the last three editions. They will be looking to fine-tune their skills and strategies in the subcontinent, where they have historically struggled.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, has shown remarkable improvement in recent years, especially at home. They have won their last six ODI series at home, including a historic 4-1 victory over West Indies earlier this year. They will be keen to test themselves against one of the best teams in the world and gain confidence for the World Cup.
The series will also feature some exciting individual battles, such as the clash between New Zealand’s captain and star batsman Kane Williamson and Bangladesh’s ace spinner Shakib Al Hasan, who are both ranked among the top five ODI all-rounders. Other players to watch out for include New Zealand’s explosive opener Martin Guptill, Bangladesh’s young sensation Mustafizur Rahman, and New Zealand’s veteran paceman Tim Southee.
The three ODIs will be played on September 21, 23, and 26 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The matches will start at 2:30 pm local time and will be broadcast live on BTV and Gazi TV. Before they go on the Bangladesh tour, they are going to play against UAE from August 17, 2023, and they sent the main squad to start getting used to Asian conditions.
The squads for both teams are as follows:
New Zealand: Kane Williamson (c), Tom Latham (wk), Finn Allen, Martin Guptill, Devon Conway, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, James Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Mark Chapman.
