NZ vs SL, 2nd ODI: After winning the 2nd ODI of the three-match ODI series, New Zealand gained an unassailable lead of 2-0 over Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first in a rain-interrupted match, which was narrowed down to 37 overs. Will Young and Rachin Ravindra started the innings for New Zealand, and both played cautiously. A slight inward movement of the ball made Will Young play out of the line of the ball as AM Fernando picked up his wicket to get New Zealand’s first breakthrough. Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra built the partnership for the 2nd wicket and took the team’s score beyond 140 in 20 overs. While trying to go over long-off, both batters scored fifties as Chapman got caught by Theekshana. A good catch at covers by Charith Asalanka helped New Zealand get the crucial wicket of Rachin Ravindra.
After that, New Zealand lost quick wickets and could score 255 runs at the end of 37 overs.
Chasing the target of 256 runs, Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka got out early in the match as Jacob Duffy picked up his wicket in the second over of the chase, and then in the 5th over, Kusal Mendis got out, followed by Avishka Fernando, who got out on the score of 10. Sri Lanka was in deep trouble. Kamindu Mendis gave hope of a comeback and held his end, but wickets kept falling from the other. Mendis scored his fifty, but New Zealand’s Will O’Rourke dismissed him with a score of 64 to make the path to victory easy for his team. New Zealand bowled out Sri Lanka on 142 runs, winning the match by 113 runs.

NZ vs SL, 2nd ODI: Captains’ Corner
“It was a fair pitch, bad batting in the powerplay cost us the game. Trying to find a way to (get things right in ODI). We should have done better with overcast conditions…expected to pick few wickets in the powerplay, but we couldn’t do that. Comeback is the key, and we have to get out of (this situation)”
Charith Asalanka(Sri Lanka Captain said post-match)
“I think we opened up pretty well, we lost wickets at times, but I think still pretty happy with the score on a wicket that offer a little bit. It was still very competitive, knew we had to bowl really well at the start. Credit to Theekshana, he knew what to do; bowled wide and made us hit to the bigger side. “
Mitchell Santner(New Zealand captain said post-match)
