Pakistan chased the target of 353 runs in the 3rd ODI of the tri-nation series to defeat South Africa by 6 wickets.
South Africa, after winning the toss, decided to bat first. Temba Bavuma and Tony de Zorzi started the innings quite well and took the score to 51 runs, but a change of field by Shaheen Shah Afridi worked as Tony de Zorzi got caught at slip. Matthew Breetzke built the partnership with the skipper, and both batters scored in their fifties, taking their team’s score to 170 runs. In the 29th over, a miscommunication between the two batters resulted in the run out of the skipper, who got out on 82 runs. Breetzke then partnered with Heinrich Klaasen, who scored 87 runs to take his team to a huge total. Kyle Verreynne contributed an unbeaten 44 runs as South Africa scored 352 runs at the end of 50 overs.
Chasing 353 runs, Pakistan started with Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam and scored 57 runs in 6 overs, but in the 7th, Mulder caught Babar in front of the wickets to get the first breakthrough for South Africa. Saud Shakeel was the next to get dismissed as he found the fielder at deep square leg. Mohammad Rizwan held his end, but Fakhar Zaman got out after scoring 41 runs. Salman Agha and Rizwan built the partnership for the 4th wicket and didn’t stop till they took their team closer to victory. Both batters scored their centuries. Rizwan remained not out on 122 runs as Pakistan chased the target in 49 overs to win the match by 6 wickets.

Pakistan vs South Africa: Captains’ Corner
When God helps, you break all kinds of records. We gave our full effort. We were looking to restrict them to 320 but Klaasen took them to 350. When we were going back after the first innings, Khushdil said we had chased 350 before. Someone said we had chased 340 against some other team. When Agha and I were batting, we set targets for five-five overs. We failed to achieve that a couple of times but mostly did. Our fielding still needs some improvement. Hopefully, we will be able to do it because that’s how champion teams play.
Mohammed Rizwan(Pakistan’s Captain) said post-match
You back yourself after getting to 350. We got a couple of wickets that slowed them down but we weren’t able to get on a momentum. It was a good wicket. There was a little bit of swing but nothing otherwise. It was tough work for bowlers. Wickets are important. Bowling both sides of the wicket, the batters are going to put you away. In the middle, either you squeeze or take wickets to handicap them in the death. I am hitting the ball well. My last proper knock was against Pakistan in the Test series. So good to remove some cobwebs.
