SRH appoints Australia's Pat Cummins as captain ahead of the IPL 2024.

Australia’s ODI and Test captain Pat Cummins was one of the biggest purchases of the IPL 2024 auction. The right-arm fast bowler was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a staggering Rs 20.50 crore, becoming the second most expensive purchase in IPL history. The Aussie has been on a golden path of wins in 2023, as under his captaincy, Australia claimed their maiden ICC World Test Championship after defeating India in the finals. After that, he retained the Ashes and then guided the Australian team to their sixth ICC ODI World Cup trophy. His back-to-back stellar performances as captain made Sunrisers Hyderabad acquire his services in the IPL 2024.

Pat Cummins is going to replace the South African batter Aiden Markram, under whom Sunrisers Hyderabad finished at the bottom of the points table of the IPL 2023. Sunrisers Hyderabad under Aiden Markram registered victory in just 4 matches of the 14 they played in the IPL 2023, which is supposedly the reason behind this change for the upcoming tournament. Pat Cummins’ impactful resume is enough to justify the change done by the franchise, despite Aiden Markram’s great resume in the SA20 league, where he took SRH’s sister franchise Sunrisers Eastern Cape to two back-to-back title wins in 2023 and 2024.

As the IPL 2024 first 21-game schedule is already out, a clash between the Southern Derby Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore will be the IPL 2024 curtain’s raiser this year. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s are going to open their league match account playing against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 23, 2024. Here is the complete list of the 21 matches scheduled for the March–April month of 2024. The full schedule will be out once the date of the Indian general elections is announced.
