Rishabh Pant Jumped Up In The ICC Test Rankings After Headingley Test

India’s wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant started his ICC World Test Championship(2025-27) journey on a high note as he became the only second wicket-keeper batter in history to score two centuries in a single test. Before the Indian cricketer, Zimbabwe’s great Andy Flower had this record on his name. After scoring double centuries in the Headingley Test, Rishabh Pant climbed the ICC Test rankings and reached the 7th spot with a rating of 801. Joe Root is still leading the board with a rating of 889, and his teammate, Harry Brook, is just behind him.

Shubman Gill-led Indian side didn’t get the start they were looking for in the five-match test series against England. India lost the first test match by five wickets as England lead the series by 1-0. Team India got a good start on Day 1 of the Headingley Test, with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring a century. The momentum was carried by the skipper Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. Both of them scored centuries in the first innings as India was eyeing a massive total, but it was the collapse of the Indian batting line-up after the dismissal of Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill that made the team settle for 471 runs in the first innings.

The same story repeated in the second innings: India’s top order performed well, but the lower order crumbled in front of England’s bowling attack. India set a target of 371 runs for the home team, which England achieved with five wickets in hand on Day 5. Ben Duckett was named Player of the Match for his scores of 62 and 149 in the first test match. England and India will play the second test match of the series on 2nd July at Edgbaston.
