Sarfaraz Khan Said “Sorry” To Sunil Gavaskar, But Why?

Sarfaraz Khan issued an apology to Sunil Gavaskar after the latter showed disappointment over Sarfaraz's dismissal at Dharamshala.

Sarfaraz Khan, India’s new find out, after his impressive performance in first-class cricket, made his way to the senior team, and the right-handed batter didn’t fail to impress the selectors and spectators. He started his international test cricket career with a fifty in his debut match while playing alongside India’s Ravindra Jadeja. Sarfaraz Khan, during the fifth test match at Dharamshala, got dismissed while playing a shot on Shoaib Bashir’s pitched-up delivery, and India’s great Sunil Gavaskar didn’t hide his disappointment over the batter’s reckless dismissal and showed his frustration by giving the example of the cricket great Don Bradman.

Sarfaraz Khan was batting aggressively during the final test match of the series, and before the tea break, he was on 56 off just 59 deliveries, but just after the breather, he gave his wicket with the first delivery. Shoaib Bashir bowled, and seeing that, Sunil Gavaskar in the commentary box said this:

“The ball was pitched up, it wasn’t short enough for that shot. Goes for it and pays the price. I mean you are playing the first ball after tea. Give yourself a little sighter. Don Bradman said to me, ‘Every ball that I face, even if I am on 200, I think I am on 0.’ And here is [Sarfaraz], playing such a shot first ball of the session.”

According to UAE-based businessman Shyam Bhatia, Sarfaraz and Sunil Gavaskar met each other one night before the match, where the cricket legend gave some tips on batting to Sarfaraz and talked about the right selection of shots, but Sarfaraz’s poor shot selection cost him his wicket during the match, and he told Shyam Bhatia to say sorry on his behalf to Sunil Gavaskar.

It is very important. He was talking to him for around 45 minutes. Then in the match, immediately after tea he got out to a very stupid shot. Sunil was so angry, and asked on commentary what he was doing. The next day, Sarfaraz was with me again and said, ‘Sir, please say sorry to Mr. Gavaskar – I made a mistake! I won’t make that mistake again.’”
