Childhood, Education, and Early Life of Shardul Thakur:
Shardul Narendra Thakur was born on October 16, 1991, to Narendra Thakur and Hansa Thakur in Palghar, a small town that is 100km from Mumbai. Coming to his education, he did his schooling at Anand Ashram Convent English High School, Palgarh, and later completed his higher studies at the University of Mumbai. During his studies, he started training, and seeing his dedication, cricket coach Dinesh Lad expressed his will to train him and asked him to stay in his house and train. Shardul did what he was told by his coach; he started training regularly under him and soon started playing for the Mumbai state team.

Domestic Career:
Shardul Thakur’s domestic career started in 2012 when he became part of Mumbai’s team and had his first-class debut for Mumbai while playing against Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy. Though his start was not that good as he picked only four wickets in four matches of the Ranji Trophy (2012-13) season, in season 2013-14 his bowling figures were fantastic as he took 27 wickets in six matches with a five wicket haul. Later, his performance skyrocketed as he took 48 wickets in the Ranji Trophy season 2014-15 with a five wickets haul in the 10 matches he played. He took eight wickets in the final of the Ranji Trophy 2015-16 against Saurasthra, helping his team win its 41st title.
He made his List-A debut for Mumbai in 2013-14 when he played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
IPL Career:
When his performance skyrocketed in domestic cricket, he was picked by Kings XI Punjab in 2014 for the 2015 IPL season, and he had his debut against Delhi Daredevils, where he picked only 1 wicket in his four-over spell and was also quite expensive as he was hit for 38 runs in his four overs. After his failed season, he was released by Kings XI Punjab, and then in 2017, he was picked up by Rising Pune Super Giants (now defunct), and that’s when his transformation phase started, as during his first season with this team he picked 11 wickets in 12 matches.
Owing to his performance, he was picked by the Chennai Super Kings for the next season, and in 2021, he was the leading wicket-taker for his team with 21 wickets. In 2022, he was on the Delhi Capitals team, and as of now, he is playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.
International Career:
In 2017, he made his international ODI debut against Sri Lanka, and in his debut match, he picked up 1 wicket for 26 runs in his 7 overs. He went on to play for the team in the ODI series, and in the third match, he took 4/52. The following year, in 2018, he made his T20 debut against South Africa, where he took only one wicket in his four-over spell. Shardul made his test debut in 2018 against the West Indies, though he was part of the selected squad in 2016 as well but didn’t play any matches in 2016. In 2018, when he got the chance to play, he only bowled 10 deliveries and suffered from a groin injury during the match.
In 2021, when he was selected for the Australia test series, he scored his maiden test fifty and proved that he could bat as well. Later in England, he scored another fifty and slowly became a regular in the Indian team.
