A Change in venue can happen for the Asia Cup 2023, Sri Lanka is the frontrunner on the list:

Since last year (2022), the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), PCB, and BCCI have been in a constant tussle about the venue for the Asia Cup 2023. The two Asian neighbors, India and Pakistan, are not on speaking terms as the geopolitical and social issues with Pakistan are not resolved yet, and the BCCI already decided that the Indian cricket team would not play in Pakistan and demanded that the matches of India be conducted at a neutral venue.

Asia Cup 2023 is going to be held in September 2023, and as the Indian side is not comfortable sending its team to Pakistan for the tournament, who is going to host the tournament is still a big question. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suggested going for a hybrid model where, apart from Indian team matches, Pakistan will host the rest of the matches and the UAE will be the host for the Indian matches, but the ACC rejected that.

Among this chaos, Sri Lanka is seen as a potential host, as the conditions in the island nation are stable now and they are also ready to host the tournament backed by the BCCI. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has also supported the idea of shifting the tournament to Sri Lanka. As per the reports, there are higher chances that Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup in 2023.

The Pakistan Cricket Board, on the other hand, won’t be happy at all if the venue is shifted to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup, plus, in the upcoming months, the ICC World Cup is going to happen in India, and there are chances that Pakistan would try to raise its concern about playing in India for the World Cup matches. The months-long tussle would come to an end in the month of May 2023, when the ACC would announce the hosting nation for the Asia Cup 2023.
