India suffered a defeat against Bangladesh in their last super 4 match by a margin of just 6 runs. Despite Shubman Gill and Axar Patel’s heroics, a lackluster India got their first defeat in this Asia Cup 2023. Though India is already in the final and are going to face the defending champions Sri Lanka India is going to miss the all-rounder Axar Patel, as now the biggest concern for India is the injury of the all-rounder Axar Patel, and that is going to make him miss the final match. Axar Patel was hit on his wrist and forearm multiple times while batting during the match.
“Axar is currently suffering from multiple injuries. He has hurt his little finger, got hit on forearm by a throw from deep and most importantly has developed a hamstring niggle. So Washington has been called,”

As revealed by the BCCI official it is the hamstring injury that is hurting the all-rounder and the last minute call to Washington Sundar to join the team, the injury could potentially affect the chances of Axar Patel playing in the ICC CWC 2023 which will start from October 5th. Axar was impressive with the bat but the biggest concern was his bowling in the Asia Cup as he wasn’t that impressive with the ball in his last match against Bangladesh he bowled 9 overs and took 1 wicket and even in the match against Sri Lanka he suffered a lot in spinning the ball in a pitch which was dominated by the spinners.
So, it will be too early to say anything about the decision taken to call Washington Sundar as a replacement as the all-rounder has been out of ODI cricket for too long. Last time he played ODI against New Zealand during January, he was in the team selected against Ireland for the T20. The all-rounder would be tested in the finals of the Asia Cup 2023.
