Before the beginning of the Asia Cup 2023, which is going to start on August 30th, where Pakistan will be seen in action against Nepal and the much-awaited India vs. Pakistan match is on September 2nd, while most of the cricket fans are focusing on the India-Pakistan match, former India team captain Sunil Gavaskar warned India about a potential team other than Pakistan that could de-settle India’s dream of claiming the Asia Cup 2023 title. He named the defending champion Sri Lanka, against whom India needs to be careful during the Asia Cup 2023, as last time Sri Lanka upset India in the title race, due to which India couldn’t qualify for the super four stage.

“In the Asia Cup, we are talking about India-Pakistan rivalry… But don’t forget Sri Lanka are also there, and they have been winning the Asia Cup. The rivalry between these three countries is always something special”

Sunil Gavaskar

Sri Lanka has claimed the Asia title six times and is just behind India, who has claimed the title seven times so far. If Sri Lanka is able to defend the title successfully this time, they will be level with India in terms of the number of titles. India is in Group A with Pakistan and Nepal, while Sri Lanka is in Group B with Bangladesh and Afghanistan. All the teams except Sri Lanka have announced the Asia Cup squad, and the reason behind the delay in announcement is because two players from Sri Lanka have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

India will be looking to claim the title again, and earlier, Sunil Gavaskar also backed the India squad and showed confidence in the players by saying that they have the caliber to win the tournament and there should be no further questions on the players selected.
