“Surya Kumar Will Have To Wait”: Sunil Gavaskar’s Sharp Remarks On India’s Batter

According to Sunil Gavaskar, Surya Kumar Yadav has a lot to prove before cementing his place in the ODI format.

Indian team is gearing up for the biggest cricketing event, the ODI World Cup 2023, and the biggest relief before the World Cup 2023 for India is Surya Kumar Yadav’s coming back to form with his innings in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Australia. He scored two half centuries in the series, and with his innings, he cleared all the doubts of the selectors who backed him despite his poor ODI performances in the past. Surya Kumar Yadav‘s last two fifties in the ODIs leave a positive impact in the minds of the players and coaches, but according to the veteran and former captain of India, Sunil Gavaskar, Surya Kumar needs to do much more to cement his position in the ODIs.

“Suryakumar hasn’t done anything big yet in ODI cricket. He only bats in those final 15-20 overs where he utilises his T20 abilities which undoubtedly is important as well. But Hardik, Ishan and Rahul can all do that same job as well. So Iyer is confirmed for No. 4. Suryakumar will have to wait and if he does get a chance at No. 4 he has to score a big hundred and show that he can also score a ton as well”

Sunil Gavaskar said in an interview

Sunil Gavaskar thinks that Surya Kumar Yadav needs to hit big runs in the ODIs to book his number four position in the team in the white ball format for India, which is completely opposite to what Harbhajan Singh said, as according to the former spinner, Surya Kumar Yadav needs to be included in all the World Cup matches of India. Though there are various opinions on the batter’s position and whether he should be included in the playing XI of the Indian team or not during the World Cup matches, the final decision rests with the coaches and captain of the Indian team.
