The Indian team has recently announced the squad for the Asia Cup 2023, and the youngster Tilak Varma was also named in the 17-player squad. Seeing his name in the squad was a dream come true for the elegant left-handed batter who recently had his debut in the Indian team during the West Indies series. He was selected in the playing XI for the T20I series and played all the five matches. From the debut match, he showed how special he is, in international cricket he opened his run account by hitting a six to Alzarri Joseph in the second ball he faced. He ended his debut innings scoring 39 runs and continued his good form to score his first international fifty in the second match.
Finding his name in the Asia Cup 2023 squad made Tilak Varma nostalgic, and on BCCI.tv, he expressed his feelings after seeing his name in the squad.
I never dreamed that I would be debuting directly in the Asia Cup, and that too in the one-day side. I was always dreaming that I would be debuting for India in ODIs. But it is a big thing for me. And I always dreamed of this, like debuting for India in ODIs, that too, in like, a single year, I got my T20I debut and suddenly, in the next month, I’m just getting a call for the Asia Cup. So yeah, it is one of my dreams and I’m just preparing for it

He also revealed how Rohit Sharma‘s presence gave him confidence to play like he did in the IPL as both the batters play for the same franchise in the IPL, speaking a lot about Indian team current captain he said.
Rohit bhaiya always backed me. When I was playing in the IPL also, he used to come near me. I was a bit nervous when I was in the IPL at the start, so he only himself came near me and talked about the game and said that always enjoy your game and always feel free. Whenever you want to talk, you can come any time for me or text me so I’ll be there for you
