“Need to have better mindset and approach to win”- Virender Sehwag after India lost WTC final.

Virender Sehwag, the former India player, slams the Indian team for their approach after they lost the WTC (2021–23) final against Australia. The drought of the ICC trophy continues for India, as on Day 5 of the WTC final, India was bowled out for 234 runs by Australia, claiming the ICC WTC trophy. India missed yet another opportunity to add another ICC title to their name, due to which Australia has now become the first team to have all the ICC titles to their name. Indian batters had no answer to Australia’s bowling attack on Day 5, and they lost all seven wickets before lunch. Cricket fans were not happy with their team’s performance, and veteran Virender Sehwag is one of them. Tweeting from his Twitter account, he wrote:

“Congratulations to Australia on winning the #WTCFinal. They are the deserved winners. India lost it in their minds when they decided to exclude Ashwin against a left-handed heavy attack. Plus the top order needed to bat better. Need to have better mindset and approach to win championships,”

Virender Sehwag

Reflecting on the statements of Virender Sehwag, it looked quite obvious that he was not happy with the team’s decision of resting Ravichandran Ashwin in the finals of the WTC as he is the number one test bowler currently, especially his record against left-handed batters is superb, and Australia was laden with left-handed batters like Alex Carey, Travis Head, Usman Khwaja, and David Warner where Ashwin would have proved effective, but now whatever has been done can’t be reversed.

Sehwag also criticized the top batting order of the Indian team, where players like Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli play, as the performance by these batters in the WTC final was not up to the mark, due to which India’s middle order suffered heavy pressure from Australia’s bowling attack and Australia managed to claim yet another ICC title.
