After a win run in the Test and ODI series against the West Indies, India has now entered the T20 series against the Caribbeans, and in the first match of the five-match series, they faced defeat as the West Indian bowlers defended 149 runs in 20 overs. After putting 149 runs on the scoreboard, WI’s bowlers picked up early wickets in the match by sending Shubman Gill and ODI Player of the Series Ishan Kishan in cheap. Later, Surya Kumar Yadav and the debutant Tilak Varma tried handling the situation, but after their short run on the crease, other players flopped to take India to victory. Though Tilak Varma looked confident as he started his run account in international cricket with a six, he continued dealing in boundaries but eventually ended on the losing side.

India’s T20I captain Hardik Pandya didn’t impress much with his bat as he got out after scoring just 19 runs. Only Tilak Varma looked confident and fearless and scored the highest runs in the match from his team. He scored 39 runs in the match with 2 boundaries and 3 sixes. His innings was also praised by Indian captain Hardik Pandya. During the post-match presentation, Hardik Pandya admitted that there were some shortcomings during India’s innings that cost them the match.

We were right in the chase and quite comfortable there. We made some errors which costed us the game which is fine. A young team will make mistakes. We will grow together. Throughout the game, we were in control of the game which was the positive in this game. Good four games coming ahead. In T20 cricket, if you lose wickets, it becomes difficult to chase down any total, that’s exactly what happened.
