Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings in the match 22nd of the IPL 2025 by 18 runs, and the one man who deserved the credit for the victory over five-time champions is a left-handed talented batter, Priyansh Arya, who was bought by Punjab Kings in the auction for INR 3.8 crores. The 24-year-old has etched his name in the IPL history book by scoring the 4th fastest IPL ton and second fastest by an Indian batter in yesterday’s match against Chennai Super Kings at Mullanpur.
Priyansh Arya’s Scintillating Ton
Punjab Kings’ skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first on the home soil from the first ball of the match. Priyansh Arya was looking to score big as he deposited it into the stands, and even after other batters failed to decode the CSK’s bowling attack and lost their wickets early, the left-handed batter was in no mood to stop. First, the Delhi boy hit his fifty in just 19 balls, and then it took him 20 more balls to reach his maiden IPL ton. Though he got out after scoring 103 runs, his work was carried on by Shashank Singh who scored an unbeaten 52 runs for his team to post 219 runs on the board at the end of 20 overs.
Priyansh Arya’s Batting Records That Helped Him Got Into Punjab Kings
The Delhi batter caught the selectors’ attention with his impressive performance in the Delhi Premier League, where he scored 608 runs in the tournament in 10 matches batting for South Delhi Superstar. His most impressive innings came against North Delhi Strikers, where he batted for South Delhi Strikers and hit 6 sixes in an over. In Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy(2023-24), he scored 222 runs in the 7 matches, which was the highest score by a Delhi player in the tournament.
Didn’t Get Pick Up In IPL 2024
Despite being shortlisted for the IPL 2023 auction, he wasn’t picked by any franchise, which made him sad. However, he carried on with his work and shifted his focus to the tournament he was playing back then.
“I felt bad when I was not selected. This year too I had a lot of expectations from the auction, but I focused on the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 matches instead. I was very happy after being selected by Punjab Kings, but could not celebrate much because my focus was on the tournament. I will definitely celebrate soon.”
