Chennai Super Kings finally broke their longest losing streak in the history of the Indian Premier League by defeating Lucknow Super Giants in the match 30th of the IPL 2025. MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube partnered to take their team to its second victory of the tournament. MS Dhoni got his first Player of the Match award apart from MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube, a new young talent from the city of Hyderabad, caught the attention of the fans. The 20-year-old Shaik Rasheed entered the show and opened for CSK in his debut IPL match.
The young right-handed batter has been on the CSK squad since 2023, and he was repurchased by the franchise at the IPL 2024 auction for INR 30 lakh. Though Shaik Rasheed’s innings lasted only 19 balls, during which he scored 27 runs for his team, that was enough to show his talent. His innings helped CSK get a good start to the chase, which eventually led to a five-wicket victory.
Shaik Rasheed hails from the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh and is a well-known name in the Domestic Circuit. He rose to fame during the 2019 U-19 World Cup, where he finished as the third-highest run-getter for the Indian side. The right-handed batter scored 210 runs in the four matches he played during the tournament.
After his performance, Andhra Pradesh’s IT minister congratulated the young prospect and wrote this on his X handle.
“Congratulations to our own Shaik Rasheed from Guntur on making his #IPL debut for Chennai today! From traveling 40 km daily for training to shining as U-19 India vice-captain, his journey is one of grit and passion. Proud moment for Andhra Pradesh! Wishing him a stellar IPL career ahead.”
If Shaik Rasheed continues playing like this, he might get the place of an opener for CSK.
