Zaheer Khan To Mentor Lucknow Super Giants In IPL 2025

Zaheer Khan

India’s World Cup 2011 winning team bowler Zaheer Khan will be taking the role of mentor in the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants. Earlier, India’s Gautam Gambhir served in that position before taking the same role in the IPL 2024 winners Kolkata Knight Riders team. As an established bowler, it was expected that Zaheer Khan would be seen in the role of a bowling coach after former South-African bowler Morne Morkel vacant the role to join India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir’s staff as a bowling coach of the Indian team. However, it is still being determined whether Zaheer Khan will pick the role of bowling coach or not.

Zaheer Khan, before retiring from all forms of cricket in 2017, played in 100 IPL games for three franchises in his decade-long IPL career. He played for Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru and took 102 wickets in his IPL career. After quitting all forms of cricket, he became the director of cricket at Mumbai Indians and then the head of global development in the same franchise.

“Zaheer has been appointed as team mentor and the unveiling will happen later today,”

sources told PTI

Lucknow Super Giants will continue with the head coach Justin Langer and his supporting staff for the IPL 2025. The recent season didn’t get LSG’s way, as they failed to qualify for the playoffs after successively doing that in the previous two seasons. There will be a major change in the LSG, as KL Rahul won’t be captaining the team in the upcoming season and will focus on his game as a batter. A new captain will be seen in the forthcoming season. In the selection committee’s eyes, the top two prospects are Krunal Pandya and Nicholas Pooran, and one will be chosen as the leader.
