Carlos Sainz breaks Red Bull’s dominance with stunning Singapore GP win; a recap of the thrilling race under the lights

Witness the stunning upset at the Singapore Grand Prix as Carlos Sainz claims his first Formula One victory, ending Red Bull's 15-race winning streak.

The Singapore Grand Prix delivered a dramatic and unexpected result as Carlos Sainz claimed his maiden Formula One victory, ending Red Bull’s record-breaking streak of 15 consecutive wins.

Sainz, who started from pole position, led from start to finish in a masterful display of controlled driving, fending off the challenges of his team-mate Lando Norris and MercedesLewis Hamilton. The Ferrari driver became the first Spaniard to win a Grand Prix since Fernando Alonso in 2013 and the first Ferrari driver to win in Singapore since Sebastian Vettel in 2015.

The race was not without drama, as several drivers suffered setbacks and incidents. The most notable was George Russell, who crashed out on the final lap while chasing Sainz for the lead. The Mercedes driver had made a bold strategy call to switch to medium tires during a safety car period and had overtaken Charles Leclerc for third place. He then closed the gap to Norris and Sainz, but pushed too hard and hit the wall at Turn 10, ending his hopes of a second win and bringing out the red flags.

Max Verstappen, who had won the previous ten races, had a disappointing night as he struggled with grip and traffic. The Red Bull driver finished behind Leclerc and saw his championship lead over Hamilton reduced to 24 points. Hamilton, who had qualified seventh, made a strong recovery to finish on the podium and score his first podium since the British Grand Prix in July.

Other drivers who impressed were Pierre Gasly, who finished sixth for Alpine after starting 11th, Oscar Piastri, who scored his 42nd point in F1 with seventh place for McLaren, and Liam Lawson, who also scored his first points with ninth place for Williams.

The Singapore Grand Prix was the first night race of the season and the first race in Asia since 2019. It was also the first race with fans in attendance since the pandemic began. The next race will be the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi on October 1st.
