Why F1 Chief Favours Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing After Collision With Norris

Find out about the controversial collision between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris in the Austrian Grand Prix.

In the Austrian Grand Prix, once again, Max Verstappen raced hard to keep his place, but when Lando Norris was about to pass him, he did not give him space, and their F1 cars collided, which ended the race for Lando Norris. However, Max Verstappen finished 5th to get 18 points, more than the gap from Norris, who stands in second.

The McLaren team principal, Andrea Stella, requested FIA to take hard action against Max and also asked why the official had not given him a harder penalty for colliding with the Lando Norris car. He also said that the FIA should have raised a white or black flag because of his actions towards the Norris.

What Max Verstappen Said About The Incident?

“It’s just really unfortunate that it happened. Now I’ve had a bit more time to look at stuff,” Verstappen said. “I think in the beginning, the first few moves, they were from quite far. Whatever happened, happened. But then I think where we touched, honestly, it just felt like it was a bit clumsy. When you are in the car initially you think, have I done something wrong? Didn’t I leave enough space, like half a car width or whatever? Of course you can always judge or argue about what is a car’s width. I honestly think I did leave a car’s width on the white line.”

“You race hard. I’m not there to give two cars width because then I know that he’s gonna get me on the exit. You race hard for a race win. I think that’s how it should be. As a friend you never want to touch, you never want to crash but yeah it happened today,” continued the reigning world champion. “It’s part of racing as well even though it’s not nice.”

” I think we’re both of course disappointed with the outcome but from our side also we have to look at the whole race because I think we did a lot of stuff wrong we had two very poor pit stops which basically put us back and that’s why also we were fighting to the end because we had a very healthy lead. We could have definitely had a bit of a different race if we just execute the race a lot better. That’s definitely a few things to look at and do better for next week,”

Said Verstappen.

Max was given only a 10-second penalty after the accident, which many of the team principals and drivers thought was very lenient even when it was clearly Max’s mistake, but Lando had to pay the prize.
