Agbonlahor’s Proposal: Chelsea Should Pair Mudryk and Palmer in Starting Lineup

Chelsea lineup

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested that Chelsea should not drop Mykhailo Mudryk from the lineup but rather play him alongside summer signing Cole Palmer.

Mudryk has been given the nod in the starting lineup for Chelsea in their last two Premier League games but is yet to find the back of the net in the 2023-24 campaign. On the other hand, Palmer, who was signed for a reported £42.5 million from Manchester City during the summer, has yet to start a Premier League match for the Blues.

Chelsea, under manager Mauricio Pochettino, has had a slow start to the season, winning just one of their first six Premier League games and currently sitting in 14th place in the table. Despite this poor start, Pochettino is reportedly not facing significant pressure to leave his position.

Agbonlahor believes that it would be interesting to see Mudryk and Palmer on the field together, with Palmer using his skills to find Mudryk in the attack. While Agbonlahor acknowledges that Mudryk is not the “finished article” and has made some incorrect decisions in recent games, he believes that playing him alongside Palmer could help build his confidence.

The former Villa striker also points out that Chelsea paid a significant fee for Palmer, and it doesn’t look like he will get more playing time at Chelsea than he did at Manchester City.

The combination of Mudryk and Palmer could offer Chelsea a fresh attacking dynamic and potentially help them improve their results in the Premier League. However, Pochettino will need to make the right decisions regarding his lineup to get the best out of his players and turn Chelsea’s season around.
