The PFA Awards for the 2022/23 season have been announced, and there are some familiar and new faces among the winners. It was quite an amazing award ceremony this year, as many new faces were seen this year.
PFA Players’ Player of the Year (Male): Erling Haaland
The Norwegian striker had a sensational season for Manchester City, scoring 55 goals in 58 matches in all competitions. He helped his team win the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League, completing a historic treble. He also broke the record for the most goals in a single Champions League campaign with 39. He beat his teammate Kevin de Bruyne and Tottenham’s Harry Kane to win the award.
PFA Players’ Young Player of the Year (Male): Bukayo Saka
The Arsenal winger was a bright spot in a highly achieved season for the Gunners, who finished 2nd in the league and missed out on the Premier League title. Saka scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists in 48 appearances, showing his versatility and creativity. He also impressed for England at the Euros, where he reached the final. He edged out Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Chelsea’s Mason Mount for the award.
PFA Players’ Player of the Year (Female): Rachel Daly
The Houston Dash forward had a stellar season in the NWSL, scoring 22 goals and winning the Golden Boot. She also helped her team win the Challenge Cup and the Women’s International Champions Cup. She beat Chelsea’s Sam Kerr and Manchester City’s Chloe Kelly to the award.
PFA Players’ Young Player of the Year (Female): Laura James
The Manchester United midfielder had a breakthrough season, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 26 matches. She helped her team finish third in the WSL, their best-ever finish, and qualify for the Champions League for the first time. She also made her senior debut for England, scoring on her first appearance. She beat Barcelona’s Lauren Hemp and Chelsea’s Niamh Charles to the award.
PFA Merit Award: Ian Wright
The former Arsenal and England striker received the PFA Merit Award for his outstanding contribution to football. Wright scored 239 goals in his club career, winning two FA Cups and a Premier League title with Arsenal. He also scored nine goals in 33 caps for England. He is now a popular pundit, broadcaster, and advocate for anti-racism and mental health awareness.
PFA Team of the Year:
The PFA Team of the Year was dominated by Manchester City players, who had six representatives in the XI. Arsenal had two players, while Tottenham, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea had one each. The team was as follows:

DF: John Stones (Manchester City), Ruben Dias (Manchester City), William Saliba (Arsenal), Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid)
MF: Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City), Rodri (Manchester City), Martin Odegaard (Chelsea)
FW: Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
