Arteta Demands Improvement, Edu Given Transfer Chance

Despite dominating much of the game against Sporting CP in Lisbon, Arsenal were unable to secure a victory due to two careless defensive errors. As a result, Mikel Arteta has responded by demanding a more solid defensive performance from his players. The Spanish manager has stated that he is aware of his team’s ability and potential going into the return leg next week but they need to be more disciplined when it comes to defending as one slip-up could cost them qualification for the next round of the Europa League. He wants to ensure his team aren’t making it easy on their opponents and turn every game into a fight which they can eventually win.

Arsenal have been handed a potential transfer window bargain as Barcelona have listed Ansu Fati at a knockdown price of £53.3m after club president Joan Laporta admitted his side could be open to the sale of an attacking player to raise funds in the summer. With star player Memphis Depay leaving, Barca are reportedly keen not to miss out on an opportunity to add some valuable cash injections into their accounts. Fati has had a career hampered by injury in recent years but has nevertheless managed to impress in attack and Arsenal could now capitalize on this golden chance by quickly agreeing on a deal with Barcelona before any other clubs step in.

Bent, who has previously heaped praise on Martinelli, believes the young Arsenal forward is a better all-round prospect than the Brazilian superstar and is impressed by his technical abilities, on and off the ball. He made special mention of Martinelli’s defensive capabilities and willingness to track back and help out his teammates in defence. Despite his tender age, he demonstrated poise beyond his years with many of his goals this season coming as a result of wonderfully-executed volleys. The potential of Gabriel Martinelli is clear and should he continue along the same trajectory it wouldn’t be too long before big clubs come calling.
