Brighton Confident of Securing New Contract for Star Winger Kaoru Mitoma Amid Premier League Interest

Brighton winger contract extension

Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly optimistic about reaching an agreement on a contract extension with their star winger, Kaoru Mitoma. The 26-year-old’s current deal runs until June 2025, which has attracted attention from several elite Premier League clubs.

Mitoma has risen to prominence as one of the Premier League’s standout wingers since his breakthrough with Brighton in the 2022-23 season. In the previous campaign, he recorded impressive statistics, notching up 10 goals and eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions, playing a pivotal role in Brighton’s historic sixth-place finish.

This season, the Japanese international has continued to shine, contributing three goals and four assists in just 10 appearances across all competitions. Given his remarkable form, it’s expected that any new contract will come with a significant pay increase from his reported £10,000-a-week wage.

Mitoma originally joined Brighton from Kawasaki Frontale in 2021 for a reported fee of £2.5 million but spent a season on loan at sister club Union Saint-Gilloise. He has also made a name for himself on the international stage, scoring seven goals in 18 appearances for Japan and representing his country at the 2022 World Cup.

Despite Premier League giants like Manchester City showing interest in the winger during the summer transfer window, no move materialized, and Brighton is now determined to secure Mitoma’s long-term future at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton’s recent 2-2 draw against Marseille in the Europa League showcased Mitoma’s contributions, with the winger playing a full 90 minutes and providing an assist. The club’s next challenge is a clash with Liverpool on Sunday, where Mitoma is expected to once again play a key role.

As Brighton strives to maintain its impressive league position, securing Mitoma’s future could be pivotal to their ongoing success in the Premier League.
