Chelsea Defender Trevoh Chalobah Set to Depart as Transfer Window Nears

Chelsea expects defender Trevoh Chalobah to leave in January, initiating talks with multiple European clubs.

Chelsea anticipates the departure of defender Trevoh Chalobah, with sources revealing the club’s decision to allow the 24-year-old to seek a new team in the upcoming transfer window, closing on 1 February. Chalobah, who has engaged in talks with several clubs, is a target for multiple European sides, including Serie A giants Roma. While Tottenham initially eyed Chalobah, their interest has waned in the centre-back amid a quest for defensive cover following Micky van de Ven’s prolonged injury.

Chalobah, sidelined due to injury since October, has not featured for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season. Chelsea‘s decision to part ways with the defender is part of a broader strategy to rebalance the squad, as revealed by Football Insider on 14 December. The club aims to offload multiple players in January to facilitate further business.

Having been a regular in Chelsea’s lineup last season under the management of Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Frank Lampard, Chalobah made 34 appearances in all competitions. His notable contribution included starting seven of Chelsea’s final eight Premier League games, helping the team secure a 12th-place finish.

As Chelsea looks to reshape its squad dynamics, Chalobah becomes one of the players on the club’s selling list. The January transfer window presents an opportunity for the defender to secure a move, with Roma reportedly in preliminary negotiations.

With consecutive league defeats to Manchester United and Everton leaving Chelsea in 12th place, the club faces Sheffield United at home on Saturday. As the transfer window approaches, the anticipated departure of Chalobah underscores the ongoing transformation within the Chelsea squad under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
