Chelsea Explore Makeweight Deal for Moises Caicedo Involving Conor Gallagher.

Chelsea are reportedly exploring the possibility of using Conor Gallagher as a makeweight in their transfer for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Chelsea are reportedly exploring the possibility of using Conor Gallagher as a makeweight in their transfer for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The Blues have been keen on landing Caicedo since last summer and were said to be close to agreeing a January move. However, it now looks like Chelsea may have to get creative if they’re going to land their man.

According to reports, the Seagulls are holding out for big money and Chelsea’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) concerns could mean the deal gets more complicated. That’s why the Blues are weighing up offering Gallagher in exchange for Caicedo in order to make the deal work.

Gallagher has become one of Frank Lampard’s most trusted lieutenants since making his break into the Chelsea first team in 2019, and has made 33 appearances for the club this season. The 21-year-old midfielder is also believed to have been a long-standing target of Brighton’s as they look to replace Alexis Mac Allister following his move to Liverpool.

The news of Gallagher’s potential involvement will be a blow for Lampard who was hopeful of having the Englishman at his disposal next season. However, it may just prove too good an offer for Brighton to ignore and could help get the Caicedo deal over the line.

It remains unclear if Chelsea will go ahead with offering Gallagher as part of any potential Caicedo transfer, but with the Blues having to be careful of their FFP commitments, it may prove to be the only way.

If a deal does go through, Caicedo would become Chelsea’s first signing of the summer transfer window and could help bolster Lampard’s midfield options for next season. With Gallagher likely heading for pastures new if an offer from Brighton is accepted, it looks like both clubs could get something out of any potential move. It also remains to be seen how long negotiations will take but with all parties involved keen on getting a deal over the line, we could see some developments in the coming weeks.
