Liverpool splashed a record-breaking bid of £110 million (€126 million) for Moises Caicedo
Liverpool and Chelsea are locked in a fierce battle to sign Moises Caicedo, the Brighton star who has taken the Premier League by storm. The 20-year-old midfielder has scored one goal and provided one assist in his debut season, attracting the attention of the top clubs in England and Europe. His tackling ability is one of the best in the world right now, as he had the highest tackling number from Brighton’s side last year.
Caicedo joined Brighton from Ecuadorian Independiente del Valle in January 2021 for a bargain fee of £4.5m. Right from the beginning, he showed his skill in the team and became the regular featuring player for Graham Potter’s side, helping them to secure a mid-table finish and reach the FA Cup semi-finals.
His performances have not gone unnoticed by Liverpool and Chelsea, who are both looking to strengthen the midfield area for their team before the start of the new season. Liverpool are reportedly ready to break their transfer record to sign Caicedo, offering £110m to Brighton to secure his services. The Reds see him as a long-term successor to Jordan Henderson, who is entering the final year of his contract.
However, Chelsea are not giving up on their pursuit of Caicedo, who is said to favor a move to Stamford Bridge. The Blues have been tracking him for months and have already had three bids rejected by Brighton, the latest being £80m. Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of Caicedo and believes he can fit into his high-pressing system. Caicedo is currently in London, waiting for his future to be resolved. He has already agreed personal terms with both clubs, but the final decision will depend on Brighton’s willingness to sell and the player’s preference. Brighton is holding out for £110m. If the deal progresses, it will be a record-breaking deal in the Premier League.
