Luton Town’s new signings and how they were promoted for the Premier League 2023/2024 season

Luton Town is a professional football club based in Luton, Bedfordshire, England. The club was founded in 1885 by merging several local clubs and became the first in southern England to turn professional. Luton Town played in the Football League from 1897 to 1900 and rejoined in 1920. The club reached the First Division in 1955 and the FA Cup final in 1959.

Luton Town won the League Cup in 1988 and stayed in the top division until 1992. After a series of financial crises and relegations, the club dropped to the fifth tier of English football in 2009. Luton Town returned to the Football League in 2014 and achieved three promotions in five seasons, reaching the Premier League in 2023.

Luton Town is the first club to return to the top tier after falling to the fifth tier of English football. In the 2022/2023 season, they finished third in the Championship with 80 points, scoring 57 goals and conceding 39. The club’s top scorer was Carlton Morris, with 20 goals. Gustavo Hamer was another important player who performed the best in the most crucial stage, and he scored in the semi-final and final of the Championship. They qualified for the playoffs and beat Sunderland on aggregate in the semi-finals. In the final, they drew 1–1 with Coventry City after extra time and won on penalties to secure promotion to the Premier League.

After promoting to the Premier League, Luton Town brought eight new players to strengthen their squad. The most notable signings were Ryan Giles and Issa Kabore, two wing-backs who joined from Wolves and Manchester City, respectively. They also signed Tahith Chong from Birmingham, Mads Anderson from Barnsley, Marvelous Nakamba from Aston Villa, Thomas Kaminski from Blackburn, Chiedozie Ogbene from Rotherham, and Ross Barkley from OGC Nice.
